Benefits of the Covid-19 on environment

These numbers are increasing every minutes while the emissions of CO2 are decreasing worldwide. This positive aspect of the sanitary crisis allows us to see the first effects, as we start with the ones in China.

In a period of one month, we can see on these two pictures above a real decrease of CO2 emissions, in Wuhan, but also, in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. These cities and regions are known as some of the most polluted and populated in the world, such as India. This difference in one month is unexpected for climate change, and we can see such evolution in each country touched by the virus.

As you can see, the decline in road traffic, air travel and other businesses activities have led to sharp reductions in pollution over several European cities, new images published by the European Space Agency show. These images above show nitrogen dioxide levels in Italy in March of 2019 and March of 2020. 

Same results in France where we can see a real difference, even more in Paris, Lille or Lyon.

In fact, according to NASA, nitrogen dioxide emissions has decreased by 10% to 30% in the Wuhan Region, the Chinese epicenter of the Coronavirus, between January 1 and February 25, 2020, compared to the same period on year earlier. And we can expect to see the same results worldwide, as Donald Trump slowly puts the United States of America in quarantine.

Result : "the reduction of air pollution, which is one of the most problematic issue for our health, should save more humans lives than the virus will cost", says the researcher François Gemenne, member of the IPCC.

More than the better quality of the air, we can see some visible changes such as the clearness of the water or some animals taking back their territories :
